Eastern Strings Duo

Musica Viva has inspired the creative collaboration of two extraordinary talented musicians- virtuoso Belorussian cimbalom performer Lucy Voronov and Larissa Burak whose beautiful soprano voice combined with Ukrainian bandura playing has thrilled the audiences in Europe and now in Australia. Their unique instruments cimbalom and bandura when combined together provide endless opportunities for various classical and folk instrumental and vocal repertoire.

Since moving to Australia, Larissa has appeared in Opera House, Musica Viva and at Australia Day concerts. She completed her Masters in music teaching at Sydney University, and divides her time between performing and teaching at the Australian Institute of Music.

Since moving to Australia, Lucy has made recordings with SBS Radio and Television Company. She has appeared in Musica Viva concerts and as a soloist with SBS Radio and Television Youth Orchestra and Sydney Mandolin Orchestra. As a soloist of Sydney Balalaika Orchestra she performed at various festivals including Australian National Folk Festival and Global Carnival Festival. In 2005 she had an international tour to Far East Russia and China.

The modern concert bandura has 65 strings and is chromatically tuned through five octaves. The strings are plucked with the fingertips, resulting in a sound similar to that of a harp, guitar and harpsichord combined.

We look forward to performing for you.
